Play video like an instrument.
Padjam turns a MIDI keyboard, a pad controller or your computer keyboard into a live video sampler. Every note plays a clip, a still, a sketch or an effect, layered as you play into one picture for the projector.
Free, in Chrome or Edge on your computer. No account; your clips stay on your machine.
What it does
-
128 pads, 128 patches
Drop clips and stills onto a grid of pads, laid out like your keyboard. Switch whole sets with program change.
-
Layers and effects
Notes stack into one picture: key out black, fade, tile, swirl, wipe, feed back and split, in the order you choose.
-
Scratch like vinyl
The mod wheel scratches, pitch bend nudges the speed, and the sound follows the needle, backwards and all.
-
Sound you can shape
A filter on every clip, moved by velocity, a knob or a sweep on each hit, and a master filter over the lot.
-
Listens to the room
Plug in a mic and visuals move with the bass, mids, treble and beats. Beats can fire pads for you.
-
Code your own visuals
Drop a p5.js sketch on a pad. It hears notes, knobs and the music, and can rework whatever's underneath.
-
Record the set
Capture the picture and sound as video, what you played as MIDI, or both, then replay a jam for a clean take.
-
Made for the gig
Installs as an app, works offline, sends the picture to a second screen, and reports how each set performed.
How it works
- Drop clips onto pads.
- Play them from your keys, pads or MIDI controller.
- Project full screen, and record as you go.
