Clips and plug-ins

Every pad holds at most one plug-in: a clip player, a still, an effect, a colour, text, a sketch or a YouTube video. Each has its own options.

Assigning

Dropping a file on a pad that already has a clip replaces the file but keeps its options. Padjam warns before replacing anything else.

Options every clip shares

Option Does
Stretch to fill Fill the output, or keep the clip's own size, centred
Transparent black Pure black in the clip shows what's underneath
Erase on note off Clear what the note drew when you let go; otherwise its last frame stays
Reset playback each note Start from the beginning each time, or carry on where it stopped
Loop Loop while held

Priority

The picture is built by drawing every playing note, one after another, into a single frame. Priority (-127 to 127) sets the order: lower draws first, higher draws on top. Notes with the same priority draw in the order they were played. Effects such as Feedback work on what's already drawn, so give them a higher priority than the clips they change.

Switching plug-in

A clip's dialog can switch it to another plug-in that takes the same kind of file, such as Play clip to Scratch clip. Settings they share carry over.

Missing files

If a clip's stored copy has gone (the browser cleared storage), its pad says missing. Click it to restore it from the original file, or drop the file again.

Sound instead of velocity

Every note's dialog has Sound input stands in for velocity. With audio input on, the music's level, bass, mids or treble then drives whatever the note's velocity drives, while you hold it.
