Sound
Filters
Every clip with sound has a filter in the Sound section of its dialog: low-pass, high-pass, band-pass or notch, with a cutoff and resonance. Three things can move the cutoff while you play, in any mix:
- Velocity: 64 leaves it where it is; each 32 harder raises it an octave.
- A controller: a knob sweeps it across the whole range, and Padjam remembers where you left it.
- A sweep after each hit: the cutoff starts some octaves away and glides back, for a "wow" or a thump.
Options → Master filter puts one filter over everything Padjam plays, swept by a controller on any channel. Recordings hear it.
Scratching
Scratch clips, the mod wheel and the arrow keys scratch clips, and the sound follows like a needle on a record: faster raises the pitch, backwards plays it in reverse, still is silent. Pitch bend changes a clip's speed, and its pitch moves with it.
Audio input
Options → Audio input listens to a microphone or audio interface. Padjam hears the overall level, bass, mids, treble and beats, every frame:
- Any note can let one of them stand in for its velocity while held.
- Sketches get them as
padjam.audio. - Each beat plays note fires a pad in time with the music.
The input goes to Padjam's ears only, never the speakers, so it can't feed back. Turn up Sensitivity for a quiet room. It only listens while Padjam is on screen.
